Powder Metallurgy

Hydraulic Powder Press

In powder metallurgy metal powder is pressed into pre-forms using high pressure and then subjected to a heat treatment process known as sintering. This takes place below the melting point and allows the production of almost dense compacts without using a melting process.

Precision parts can also be manufactured in high and low volumes and even as one-off components by using highly developed pressing technology.

Sintering technology lies at the heart of powder metallurgy. Using the combined effects of elevated temperature diffusion and surface tension, it facilitates the manufacture of metal parts suitable for further processing from porous, pressed-powder compacts.

Mechanical forming then makes it possible to produce pore-free parts from sintered blanks having an average porosity level of around 10 – 15%.

Powder metallurgy stands out as a forward-looking technology because of its excellent process economics and environmentally friendly processes.
